This morning I attended the Parents for Public Schools of Houston/HISD Board of Trustees sponsored Town Hall Meeting at Davis High School. We packed the place with interested, engaged, and now better informed parents and supporters of high quality education for all students.

David Thompson was as informative as always. His update on State funding for education raised questions, but no one was dissatisfied with his answers.

Sharon Eaves discussed the funding crisis from the HISD perspective. Her presentation pinpointed the problems and explained potential solutions. That’s a good thing.

I spotted State Senator Mario Gallegos; HISD Trustee Juliet Stipeche; and Raymonda Mack with “Save Texas Schools.” Had to leave early but want to thank Nancy Lomax, Martha Meyer, Laura Lomax-Bream, and Mai Lynn Womack for a job well done. Did not get to hear “Project GRAD” founder, James Ketelson. Project GRAD is an important program on so many levels!

Davis Principal Jamie Castañeda should be especially proud of his students from the cheerleaders who greeted us at the door, excellent entertainment by the Davis Mariachi Band, and I have no words to describe the refreshment prepared by the students of the Hotel and Restaurant Magnet Program. If you are invited to a catered affair by these talented students…Jump at the chance!!!

Hope to see you next week April 9th at Lamar High School, 3325 Westheimer, 10:00 AM for PPSH/HISD Board of Trustees Town Hall Meeting II.
